How curiosity turned into passion, passion into ambition and ambition into Gemairo Group as it is today.
Gemairo Group was named after the success of the ”Gemairo” app among Dutch students. In 2018 our (14-year-old then) founder Sjoerd released Magiscore: a completely new way for students to view and interact with their grades. Within days the app rose to the top charts of the app stores and stayed there ever since. After this growth Sjoerd rebranded the app to ”Gemairo”, inspired by this Dutch meme. Years later Gemairo is still used by over 35% of all Dutch students monthly and over 12% open Gemairo daily.
After leaving high school it was time for a new adventure and expantion of the portfolio. Within 3 days the first version of ”Spotistats” (now rebranded to stats.fm) was launched. Another stats app, but instead of targeting Dutch students this app was aimed at worldwide music lovers. Within the first year the app grew to 1M+ users and Sjoerd dropped out of university to focus 100% on the app.
Taking on strategic investments and partnerships with huge players in the music industry led to the company growing to 20M+ users and 50+ employees. While stats.fm continues to grow and innovate, we already started another exciting venture: Swipefy
Using all the (musical) knowledge we gathered while building stats.fm and after countless requests to step into the music recommendations game we decided to build the next big thing in music. With over 150K pre-orders within the first week we reached the #1 App Store spot in almost every country and reached 1M users soon after.
In early 2025, Swipefy partnered with JarjourCo—a powerhouse in the music industry known for over 100 #1 hits, more than 450 Platinum records, and 350+ billion streams. This collaboration catapulted Swipefy into the global spotlight, attracting strategic partners, A-list artists, and major music labels, and solidifying its position as a leading platform in music discovery.
